Kinase Subfamily AlphaK2
From WikiKinome
Kinase Classification: Group PKL: Family Alpha: Subfamily AlphaK2
Poorly studied vertebrate alpha kinases, expressed selectively in muscle.
Domain Structure
ALPK2 and ALPK3 are long proteins (1600-2200 AA) with an N-terminal Ig domain and C-terminal Ig domain followed by a kinase domain. The middle region is relatively low complexity.
Evolution
Two copies in vertebrates (ALPK2 and ALPK3), with no detectible specific homologs in invertebrates.
Functions
Both ALPK2 and ALPK3 are selectively expressed in cardiac and skeletal muscle. ALPK3 appears to be nuclear. Its expression can drive cardiomycyte differentiation of the P19CL6 cell line [1] and mouse mutants have cardiomyopathy [2].
