Kinase Family VKR

Kinase Classification: Group TK: Family VKR

This family is defined by a kinase domain similar to that of insulin receptor (InsR) and an extracellular ANF_receptor domain, also found in the RGC kinase group. VKR kinases were found in several insects (including several Drosophilids but not Drosophila melanogaster), Shistosoma mansoni, and the sea urchin, but this family has not been found in vertebrates. The family was first described by Ahier et al [1], and dubbed "Venus flytrap kinase", after the alternative name of the ANF receptor, the Venus flytrap (VFT) module.
